And you need to do all this with maybe your team in different places, and accomplishing of it on video calls or conference calls or over a channel like Slack or Discord. That\u2019s what it means right now to most people, and probably deep into 2021 too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"eplus-T6HKrI wp-block-heading\">What does \u201cbusiness continuity\u201d mean in more normal, general times?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-91LCvR\">It refers to the idea of running your business successfully, honestly. That has a lot of different aspects, but it means:<\/p>\n\n\n<ul class=\"eplus-FbgpxD wp-block-list eplus-styles-uid-6bc4a2\"><li>Good products<\/li><li>Good products launched on time<\/li><li>Good CSAT scores (customer satisfaction)<\/li><li>Recurring revenue from happy customers<\/li><li>Employees that like working there and feel invested<\/li><li>Low turnover of employees because they like working there<\/li><li>Sales goals being met<\/li><li>Marketing and sales working together well<\/li><li>Operations and logistical goals being met<\/li><li>Executives and senior leaders explaining the strategy and the priorities throughout the year<\/li><li>Payroll being met<\/li><li>Growth every year\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-UFLKIf\">If you are doing the majority of these things during \u201cnormal\u201d times, that is \u201cbusiness continuity.\u201d It means that year-over-year, both your employees and your customers\/clients know what to expect from you. It\u2019s a consistent experience. 2020 is an outlier year for many businesses, so employees (who often have to work from home) and clients (who are adjusting their own priorities and timelines) don\u2019t necessarily expect the same consistency they did in 2018, 2019, etc. They still want you to deliver for them, but we all know 2020 is a different year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-kx9fhV\">More generally and in more sane years, the above bullet points are what \u201cbusiness continuity\u201d means.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"eplus-Z8ZRGg wp-block-heading\">So how does software development outsourcing play into all this about business continuity?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-8phcrA\">In a few different ways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-gKvwtZ\">Some people believe that if you want continuity, you cannot outsource core functions like software development, because you need a dedicated internal team focusing on that, and a team where the senior leaders know them and feel comfortable interacting with them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-K3A5lJ\">That can be true, but the problem becomes when business pivots or you need to get a new product or launch-ready, and your team:<\/p>\n\n\n<ul class=\"eplus-oxB3Mh wp-block-list eplus-styles-uid-438bef\"><li>Has too much going on<\/li><li>Lacks\u00a0<a href=\"\/de\/expertise\/\">the expertise<\/a>\u00a0to get it done<\/li><li>Can get it done, but it will take a very long time<\/li><li>Can get it done, but it will be very costly<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-ekCJfw\">In any of these situations, you need to outsource some or all of the development process to ensure business continuity -- and that is true whether or not we are in COVID.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-O1oERE\"><a href=\"\/de\/about\/case-studies-and-client-testimonials\/knapp-flexibility-and-stability-in-logistics-industry\/\">Look at one client example.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-SDE1xa\">Companies have become more excited to outsource certain functions over the past 10-15 years because they want a mix of cost and value, and they want to locate the relevant expertise to get them launched on-time and with minimal disruptions and update cycles.
